Organisations non gouvernementales

Introduction

Shalakany advises non-governmental and international organizations seeking to establish and maintain a legal presence in Egypt. The Firm assists with the establishment of branches, foundations and associations, and advises on registration options, entity structures and applicable Egyptian legal requirements. Its support also covers the drafting and review of establishment documentation, lease arrangements, dealings with governmental authorities, and ongoing labour and social insurance matters

Major Cases

  • The Firm has been honored to serve as an Egyptian legal counsel for several Non-Governmental Organizations (“NGO”) wishing to establish a permanent legal presence in Egypt since the enactment of the new NGO law in 2002. We have helped establish several entities under the new NGO law encompassing all the forms provided for therein.
  • Accordingly, we have assisted in establishing NGO branches, foundations and associations. We also maintain a very good relationship with the NGO Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The services provided to our NGO clients typically include (i) advising clients in respect of the options for registration and the underlying implications for each option; (ii) advising clients regarding the legal characteristics relating to different forms of entities under Egyptian Law; (iii) assisting clients with establishing entities in Egypt and the tasks relating thereto (i.e. drafting and review of documents, internal and external translation, visits to governmental entities); (iv) drafting, reviewing, negotiating and validating the dates of lease agreements for the future premises of the Egyptian entities and (v) providing legal assistance and support for labor law and social insurance matters such as providing and reviewing employment contracts’ templates and addressing clients’ queries/concerns regarding employment relationships.
